Bulova is an American watch brand, known for its accutron mechanisms – Bulova Moon Watch Test here. This one released in October 2016, a tribute model of its historic time that walked on the moon with Colonel Dave Scott in 1971 for the apollo 15 mission.
Case of the Bulova Moon Watch
This watch has a very elegant design despite its large size. The similarities between the original and the reissue are very obvious.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 45 mm. With a height of 13.5mm, the watch does not look massive. The two elongated push-pieces, inspired by the original 1971 Bulova Moon Watch, run almost all the way through the right side of the watch. The signed crown (exact replica) is located at the 3 o’clock position. The upper pushbutton starts and stops the chronograph function while the lower pushbutton resets the hands to zero. The case back is engraved with the dates of the apollo 15 mission, to celebrate the original.
The dial is deep black with white indexes. This gives it a very readable, sober and magnificent appearance. The three subdials, located at positions 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, indicate different time intervals: 1/10 second register, execution seconds and chronograph minutes. A large tachometer ring, for measuring speed and distance, surrounds the dial. The dial markers and hands are very bright. (blue lume). The date window between 4 and 5 o’clock fits well with the design (the original had no date function)
The glass is made of sapphire with anti-reflective coating.
Movement of the Bulova Moon Watch
The original watch had an automatic movement, but the reissue has a Precisionist quartz mechanism (Bulova “High-Performance” 262 kHz). Bulova indicates that the accuracy of this movement is very high. What makes these movements special compared to most other quartz movements is that they are much more accurate, deviating by no more than about 10 seconds per year (as opposed to 10-15 seconds per month). The battery life is about 2 years and the chronograph measures up to 1/10th of a second.
This watch is sold with a textured black leather strap (giving a fabric effect with a very retro neo look). The clasp is with a pin buckle.
Notice of the Bulova Moon Watch
The Bulova Moon watch is a success in my opinion, because it combines all the qualities to become a collector’s watch. The brand has managed to keep the spirit of the original watch while making it more modern and in tune with the times.
The Bulova Special Edition Moon Watch sells for 589 euros (699 euros on a steel bracelet) and is presented in a collector’s box, a certificate of authenticity, an additional black nylon strap and a strap changing tool. The watch is guaranteed for 3 years.
