DAVOSA is releasing the Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition. The special edition model, limited to 300 pieces, was created in collaboration with the Shark Angels organisation and contributes directly to the protection of sharks. Find out exactly how this happens and what the unusual dial is all about in this review…
How do I “adopt” a shark?
Shark Awareness Day takes place annually on July 14. This day of action aims to raise awareness of these highly endangered animals, explain the role of sharks in the marine ecosystem, and dispel negative preconceptions about sharks. Numerous zoos, aquariums, organizations, and NGOs around the world participate. The environmental organization Shark Angels is committed to the conservation of habitats and the protection of sharks worldwide.
All well and good, and above all important! But what do Shark Awareness Day and the non-profit organization Shark Angels have to do with watches?

This watch review is about a diving watch that not only has a fascinating look but also actively contributes to the protection of sharks. We are talking about the DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver, whose sister models I have already had the opportunity to examine in previous watch reviews. The special model is being released to mark Shark Awareness Day 2025 and is strictly limited. Only 300 pieces have been produced. For a change, I’ll mention the price of 1,195.00 euros now, rather than at the end of the article. This is because part of the proceeds from each watch will go to Shark Angels, meaning that you will be financially supporting the organization’s projects when you purchase one. DAVOSA refers to this as the symbolic “adoption” of a shark.

What Shark Angels does specifically to protect sharks
To dispel widespread myths and fears about sharks, Shark Angels offers free educational programs, lobbies for legislative changes to protect sharks, educates consumers about the consumption of products containing shark ingredients, and promotes shark research through a mentoring program. This brief introduction to Shark Angels’ activities is intended to provide transparency so that you know who you are supporting when you purchase a DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition.

The DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition at a glance
The Argonautic is available in two color variants with a distinctive dial that sets it apart from previous models in the popular series. The mesh-like structure is more than just a visual feature. It is reminiscent of the special texture of shark skin. Its structure reduces drag in the water, allowing the shark to swim more energy-efficiently – the result of millions of years of evolution. Of course, the mesh structure of the dial has no function in this case. However, it looks unusual and, in my opinion, fits perfectly with the diving watch theme. I have never worn anything like it before. In fact, you could call it a kind of skeletonization. The mesh structure allows a glimpse of the movement behind it.

To ensure perfect readability of the dial, the indices and hands have been coated with Super-LumiNova BGW9 luminous material.
I find it difficult to choose between the blue (reference number: 161.541.40) and black (reference number: 161.541.50) Argonautic models.

Premium quality as far as the eye can see
Although the Argonautic has the iconic silhouette of classic diving watches, it is by no means a vintage model. This is also evident in its diameter of 41.50 millimeters, which meets the demands of today’s wearers. With a height of 12.50 millimeters, the case also appears quite flat and sporty. The sapphire crystal used is not domed, but remains flat. DAVOSA relies on classic materials and manufactures the case from satin-finished stainless steel, with a polished finish in some areas. This adds variety to the look of the diving watch. The crown and case back are screw-down. I really like the fact that the solid case back features not only the iconic DAVOSA compass rose, but also the limited edition number.

The case is water-resistant to a depth of 300 meters. The DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition is by no means a diving watch that you would wear while snorkeling, but rather at the hotel pool. The helium valve also underscores its professional ambitions.
During the decompression phase, helium molecules can accumulate in the case. If these cannot escape, they could, in the worst case, cause the watch glass to shatter. The sapphire crystal is anti-reflective for better readability.
The bezel inlay is made of high-tech ceramic, which DAVOSA often uses. The lightweight, temperature-resistant, and hypoallergenic material remains virtually scratch-free even after years of intensive use and gives the watch a like-new appearance.

Movement & bracelet of the DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition
The DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition is powered by a DAV 3021, which is a refined Sellita SW200-1, itself a perfect copy of the famous and now rare ETA 2824-2. The Swiss automatic movement is characterized by its durability and robustness.
The Argonautic is worn on a high-quality stainless steel bracelet. DAVOSA’s TriaLink bracelet has a folding clasp with fine adjustment so that the watch can be worn optimally on the wrist.

My conclusion on the DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition
There is no longer any need to discuss the legitimacy of the DAVOSA Argonautic. The diving watch has secured its place both in the collection of the traditional Swiss brand and in the low four-digit price range. The Argonautic impresses with its excellent choice of materials and perfect workmanship, which is unmatched among similarly priced watches. If you want to spend relatively little money and still wear a really good diving watch, this is the right choice for you.

But the DAVOSA Argonautic also deserves recognition as a Shark Diver Limited Edition. Recognition for daring to try something new and turning the design of the dial upside down. Integrated into the important theme (the protection of sharks), including support for the Shark Angels organization, it all comes together to form a really well-rounded story. That’s why I give the DAVOSA Argonautic Shark Diver Limited Edition a clear recommendation to buy.
Important: due to its limited availability and the fact that it was released some time ago, it’s worth not hesitating too long. Regardless of the color, the Argonautic Shark Diver costs 1,195.00 euros. The set includes a high-quality, polished wooden box.
