At the moment it is worth to watch Formula 1. This is not only due to the world championship battle, which has gained in excitement again in the 2021 season, but also due to the advertising – right, the watch advertising. You can find them on boards, as sponsor stickers on the cars, and last but not least on the wrists of the drivers, pretty much every one of them is equipped with a luxury watch.
Watch brands and Formula 1 – that fits!. No wonder, precision, perfection and performance are probably characteristics that are highly appreciated on both sides. In recent years, this has led to more and more manufacturers finding their way into Formula 1. While Rolex, for example, is the main sponsor of the series, most racing teams also have a designated watch partner. Mercedes IWC, Ferrari and McLaren Richard Mille and four-time world champion Red Bull TAG Heuer.
The traditional Swiss company and the Austrian racing team have been cooperating for several years. And since Red Bull star Max Verstappen is currently a permanent guest on the podium and competing for the world championship title, he can often be seen in interviews. Always on his wrist: one of TAG Heuer’s premium watches from the Formula 1 collection. This includes the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull with the reference number CAZ101AB.BA0842. Will it perform as well as the current Red Bull car?
The Unboxing
TAG Heuer has put a lot of thought into the design and you can see that. Maybe not at first glance, but at the latest when you open the black packaging and admire the inner workings for the first time. In the dark blue lined box, the watch is on a red-yellow cushion. So everything matches the color design of the racing team. I also like the glossy warranty card next to it with the team logo.
The TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull itself is a chronograph in the books: self-confident, masculine, classy and sporty. This is mainly due to the combination of stainless steel and dark blue dial, which is softened by red and yellow color accents. A tachymeter on the bezel, three totalizers and two pushers also give the impression that this watch can clearly do more than “just” look good. But more about the details later.

The TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull on the wrist
A visually good appearance is far from being everything, but it is not unimportant nonetheless. And from the first time you put it on, you simply have to acknowledge without envy that the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull is convincing all along the line here. The classic look is without question timeless. The design is sporty, but also proves enough style consciousness for everyday life and therefore fits every occasion. Intermediate conclusion: a men’s watch that you can always wear, just a real daily rocker.
With a diameter of 43 millimeters, the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull has a size that is slightly above average, but never seems too bulky or overbearing. This chronograph will fit any wrist. As a quartz watch, the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull is not too thick. It therefore lies quite flat on the wrist.
The case: very solid and with small details
The minimalistic case is approximately round and comes without any small corners or edges. As you would expect from a premium chronograph, it is made of high-quality stainless steel, which ensures durability and robustness against external influences. I like the finish of the case surfaces very much. These are both polished and satin-finished, which gives the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull a dynamic appearance. The bezel sits on top of the case.
What I really like is the back. The six-screw, solid caseback has been sunburst finished in the manufacturing process, which makes it look particularly classy. In the center, neatly engraved into the stainless steel, is the logo of the successful Formula 1 team: Aston Martin Red Bull Racing. Below that, a checkered pattern reminiscent of the black and white checkered flag. Let’s briefly note: at this point, the racing theme was quite beautifully implemented!
Thanks to the solid caseback, the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull is water resistant to a depth of 200 meters. Thus, the racing chronograph can even keep up with many diver’s watches. To withstand a pressure of 20 bar at these depths, TAG Heuer uses resistant sapphire crystal on the front.
Quartz movements have their advantages
The watches in TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 collection are usually distinguished by their quartz movements. If you think about it in more detail, this is a good choice. A quartz movement is much lighter and more compact, which noticeably lowers the overall weight of the chronograph and reduces the overall height of the case. In everyday use, the movement also offers the typical chronograph functions, among others: Stop second, 30 minute time and 1/10th of a second. This also makes the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull interesting for use at the race track.
Winding up via the massive stainless steel crown is straightforward. The haptic feedback of the two pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock is very good.
Dial and bracelet of the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull
THE highlight of the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull is without a doubt the dial. We should be grateful to the Swiss watch brand for this rich navy blue hue. Here, TAG Heuer also relies on the sunburst finish familiar from the back. Despite its wealth of information with three totalizers, a date window at 4 o’clock, a minute index on the rehaut and various lettering in white and red, the dial remains uncluttered and easy to read. The second hand provides the yellow color accents. The totalizers offer precisely the functions that thrill racing fans.
This also applies to the bezel, which has a tachymeter printed on it. If you measure the time it takes to cover a distance of one kilometer, you can read off the speed at which you are moving. For example, one kilometer takes 30 seconds. The second hand therefore stops at 6 o’clock. On the bezel, you’ll find the indication 120, which means that you’ve been traveling at an average speed of 120 km/h.
To round off the successful overall impression, the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull is delivered with a classic stainless steel bracelet including a folding clasp. A stainless steel bracelet like this is practically timeless and fits every occasion. The wearing comfort during my test days was extremely good. A nice detail: the TAG Heuer logo on the folding clasp.
My conclusion about the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull
It’s already hard not to like the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull. The sporty chronograph captivates with its penchant for motorsports. True racers and motorsports fans will have a blast with this watch. Not only because of the exciting look in the Red Bull design. It is also the functions that inspire and guarantee a successful day at and on the race track. Measure lap times to the tenth of a second or calculate average speeds? With the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull, that’s no problem.
Nevertheless, the chronograph is ideally suited for everyday use. A lot of stainless steel and a timeless design make the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Red Bull interesting not only for real fans, but also for the masses. That’s why I can highly recommend this men’s watch to you if you are looking for a masculine daily rocker with sporty genes.
