Squale 2001 Marina Militare – A Legend from the Italian Navy
With the Squale 2001 Marina Militare, Squale presents a diving watch that, until recently, was reserved exclusively for members of the Italian Navy. Developed in close collaboration with the Marina Militare and originally available only through military channels, this exceptional model is now being made available to collectors and watch enthusiasts for the first time.
Limited to just 500 individually numbered pieces, this special edition combines professional diving watch technology, military history, and a level of exclusivity that will never be seen again in this form.

Developed for Real-World Missions
The creation of the 2001 Marina Militare did not begin at a designer’s drawing board, but with the specific requirements of the Italian Navy. Based on the existing Squale 2001, a new version was developed to meet the unique demands of military divers.
This resulted in numerous features that were not chosen for aesthetic reasons, but rather to fulfill a functional purpose. These include a specially adapted case, optimized readability, and an exclusive color scheme that reflects the maritime character of the Italian Navy. The result is a professional diver’s watch with an authentic operational background and an unmistakable character.

Unique Case Architecture
Particularly noteworthy is the case developed specifically for this project. The dimensions and proportions were created exclusively for the Marina Militare edition and are not found on any other model from the brand.
Combined with the deep blue dial and the striking applied indices, this creates a look that remains unique within the Squale collection. According to an agreement with the Italian Navy, this combination of case shape, colors, and design elements will not be reproduced or used for other models in the future. This gives the 2001 Marina Militare an exceptionally high collector’s value.
Inspired by Italy’s maritime heritage
The captivating blue dial and color-coordinated bezel reflect the tradition, pride, and maritime heritage of the Italian Navy. The domed applied hour markers not only provide a high-quality aesthetic but also ensure excellent readability even under difficult visibility conditions.
This combination of functionality and maritime aesthetics gives the watch a strong identity and makes it a true tool for professional use—as well as an exceptional collector’s item.

The history of the legendary Squale 2001
The roots of the model series date back to the 1960s. Even then, the Squale 2001 was among the pioneering professional dive watches of its time and was one of the first models to feature the characteristic crown at 4 o’clock—a feature that remains a hallmark of Squale to this day.
Its reputation was established by numerous professional divers and free-diving legends. The model series became particularly famous when Jacques-Yves Cousteau presented a Squale 2001 to Michel Laval, the first officer of the Calypso, in 1972 and had it engraved with his initials. The new Marina Militare consistently carries on this tradition, combining historical authenticity with modern watchmaking technology.

Swiss technology for the highest standards
Inside the watch beats the proven Swiss automatic movement Sellita SW200-1 in the Elaboré version. It stands for reliability, precision, and robust everyday durability. The movement is complemented by a stainless steel case water-resistant to 600 meters, a screw-down crown, and a screw-down case back.
The bidirectional bezel, with its innovative push-to-release system, deserves special attention. Together with the sapphire insert and the generous luminous markers, it underscores the professional standards of this timepiece. The case back also bears the engraved emblem of the Italian Navy as well as the individual serial number of each piece.
Exclusivity down to the last detail
The 2001 Marina Militare comes with a specially developed rubber strap featuring the Marina Militare logo. A high-quality stainless steel bracelet is also included, allowing the watch’s character to be flexibly adapted.
The complete package is rounded out by an exclusive wooden box and a specially designed brochure documenting the history and unique features of this extraordinary collaboration. Thus, the Squale 2001 Marina Militare is far more than just a diver’s watch—it becomes a piece of Italian naval history on your wrist.
