The TITONI Impetus CeramTech is a completely new watch collection. Striking colors and an edgy design make up the character of the six timepieces from the Swiss watch brand. However, that’s not the whole story. For the first time, TITONI is using high-tech ceramics on a large scale, opening up a whole new range of possibilities for watchmakers…
A Statement Piece
New from TITONI! No, not a new special model, no new dial colors, collaborations or the like. The traditional Swiss manufacturer recently unveiled an entirely new watch collection that has since polarized due to its avant-garde appearance. It goes by the name Impetus (as does an existing watch from the manufacturer). Its name suffix, CeramTech, reveals what’s so exciting here aside from the daring color combinations. TITONI’s watchmakers have given free rein to their creativity and simply combined several case materials. Stainless steel, partially Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) and: Ceramic – these are the ingredients for an attractive watch cocktail.
TITONI even goes one step further and identifies its material as high-tech ceramic. The material – made by a Swiss supplier in collaboration with TITONI – promises particularly high wearing comfort and is said to be especially suitable for allergy sufferers. At the same time, the Swiss manufacturer emphasizes the new design possibilities offered by the use of high-tech ceramics. An exciting project, then, which has now gone into series production. Or as TITONI calls it: a statement piece.
The Impetus CeramTech collection at a glance
The the six references are definetly statement pieces. Some present themselves more, some less conspicuously. On press releases and product photos, the main focus is on the bird of paradise: the CeramTech 83765 B-AO-707. I guarantee even those who have been watch lovers for decades: you haven’t seen such a color combination yet. Black bezel, combined with turquoise dial and bracelet and yellow dial ring. If Curaçao was a watch, it would look exactly like this. The reference does not meet my taste one hundred percent. Anyway, it has already achieved its goal of being provocative and eye-catching.
So, for the market launch, TITONI provided me with two other models: the 83765 S-FF-709 (grey-blue) and the 83765 B-WW-712 (black-white). The latter will be the main focus of this watch review.
Unboxing and my first impression of the TITONI Impetus CeramTech.
TITONI uses valuable box sets, in which the manufacturer sends and presents its timepieces. I also like the look of the TITONI Impetus CeramTech right away. The box is completely black.
Watches from TITONI were so far – except of course the legendary Seascoper series – remembered mainly by their classic design. The Impetus CeramTech has a completely different effect on me. It comes across as much less conservative. As a black and white reference 83765 B-WW-712, it seems rather futuristic and clean. That sets it apart from the rest. The angular look of the bezel is also convincing right away.
I find the diameter of 43 millimeters interesting, but it doesn’t look too oversized on my wrist. Lug to lug, we have dimensions of 50 millimeters. Thus, the TITONI Impetus CeramTech tends to fit well on a larger wrist circumference.
How high-tech ceramics benefit case construction
The invisible core of the case consists of stainless steel. Why don’t we get to see it? It’s because of the black DLC coating, which makes the case even harder, more scratch-resistant, and thus more durable. But: not every reference has this DLC coating. My second test model, the 83765 S-FF-709, has to do without this feature. More important to most, however, will be the look, which they like the most.
The central element of the case and trademark is the case ring, which wraps around the case in the same color as the dial and bracelet, under the bezel. This is where the high-tech ceramic, which has already been mentioned several times, comes into play. Accents are set by the partly polished, partly brushed surface. It is interspersed with three narrow grooves. They give the TITONI Impetus a more futuristic, grippy and sporty look.
Otherwise, the Impetus offers all the conveniences we’ve come to expect from functional watches in the premium segment. This includes the flat sapphire crystal, which has an anti-reflective coating on both sides. This keeps the dial legible in strong light.
TITONI claims water resistance to a depth of 300 meters, although the model is not a designated diver’s watch. After all, the polygonal shape of the bezel is not rotatable, as is the case with diving watches, but is an expression of the avant-garde design of this timepiece. As such, the Impetus CeramTech could easily compete with a Seascoper 300, but doesn’t quite reach the class of the Seascoper 600.
ETA’s classic powers the TITONI Impetus CeramTech
A watch that sees itself as a designer piece cannot, of course, do without the transparent case back through which the movement is visible. This is the ETA classic 2892-A2. The Swiss top movement is considered to be extremely reliable and has a power reserve of 42 hours. A visual highlight in my eyes is the golden rotor with engraved brand logo.
Small details like the engraved TITONI flower in the ceramic inlay of the crown complete the good overall impression. The screw-down crown is surrounded by a side crown guard in the same color as the bezel and itself has the same color as the case ring. Color-wise, everything is again coordinated.
Many options when it comes to the strap
What I noticed right away: the grooves of the case ring are picked up again in the design of the dial. It is interspersed with 12 of these vertical lines, which give the dial a structure. 12 applied indices are coated with luminous material and convince with a good readability. At 3 o’clock, there is a date window.
Those who like it sporty will appreciate the rubber strap, with which TITONI mainly advertises the watch. Using a quick-release system, it can be removed within seconds and without tools. Optionally, you can then put on the stainless steel band that comes with the watch. Depending on the watch, the steel band including the folding clasp is provided with a DLC coating. Thus, depending on the reference, it always matches the bezel, which consists of stainless steel and is easy to operate.
My conclusion about the TITONI Impetus CeramTech
What a watch! TITONI comes up with an exciting as well as versatile new introduction. The extravagant, well thought-out design, which does not even try to copy the tradition of previous models, is a direct hit.
So it is obvious for whom this extraordinary collection from urban chic to futuristic is particularly suitable. You are experimental in terms of fashion, unadjusted and like to dare something new? You attach importance to carefully selected materials processed at the highest level? Then the TITONI Impetus CeramTech is the right choice for you. This watch is anything but boring. A watch with rough edges – in the truest sense of the word. Nevertheless, I would describe the edgy design as timeless.
Oh well, then there’s the innovative use of high-tech ceramic, which brings weight advantages similar to titanium and is also anti-allergenic. Combined with stainless steel (and optionally Diamond Like Carbon), the collection brings special premium quality to the wrist.
And if even after this string of pro-arguments you are unsure whether the TITONI Impetus is the wristwatch for you, I point out the intelligent bracelet with quick-change system.
Six references offer enough colors to choose a personal favorite. If you choose one with DLC coating, you will have to pay 2,630.00 euros, otherwise 2,490.00 euros. As always, you can find all the important links below.
