The launch of the OW 8001 Tundra: a Nordic masterpiece

In 2023, Ollech & Wajs launched the 8001 Chronometer, its first sports watch with an integrated bracelet in fifty years. Now the next stage follows in 2025: the OW 8001 Tundra. This extraordinary watch combines Nordic design elements with the brutal, functional style of the original 8001. The inspiration for the Tundra comes from a close collaboration with the renowned Norwegian architecture studio MIR, based in Bergen. MIR is known for its groundbreaking CGI work that explores the interplay between architecture and nature. Together with Ollech & Wajs, the studio developed a customized version of the 8001, produced exclusively for the MIR community of artists and designers.

The original “MIR Watch” was an extremely limited edition model and generated enormous interest, prompting Ollech & Wajs to bring this unique aesthetic to a wider audience. The result is the new OW 8001 Tundra, named after the rugged Nordic landscape that inspired it.

A design that combines movement and nature – OW 8001 Tundra

The OW 8001 Tundra is characterized by an organic, green fumé dial framed by an impressive, finely crafted stainless steel bezel ring. The radial structure engraved into the brushed stainless steel creates a play of light and shadow that makes the watch stand out. This detail reflects Nordic architecture, which often incorporates natural elements such as fjords, forests or mountains into its design.

The robust case construction remains true to the heritage of the original 8001, while the clean lines and precise finishing emphasize the modern interpretation. The tonneau shape of the case measures 39.5 mm in width and 12.7 mm in height and is made of durable 316L stainless steel.

Maximum precision on the inside

What really sets the OW 8001 Tundra apart from other sports watches, however, is what lies hidden inside. At the heart of the watch is a chronometer-certified version of the Soprod Newton Precision P092. This automatic movement with date display was specially adapted for Ollech & Wajs and impresses with its exceptional precision and durability. With a power reserve of 44 hours, 23 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, it meets the highest Swiss quality standards.

Each movement has been individually tested and bears a unique COSC serial number engraved on the main plate. This engraving guarantees that the movement has passed the stringent tests of the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres. In addition, the movement was tested for durability by the Laboratoire Dubois in La Chaux-de-Fonds and awarded the Chronofiable® certificate.

Ready for any application – OW 8001 Tundra

The OW 8001 Tundra is not only a visual highlight, but also a reliable companion in any environment. Thanks to its robust design and outstanding water resistance up to 300 meters, it is equally suitable for everyday wear and extreme conditions. The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating ensures perfect readability, while the hands and indices coated with Super-LumiNova® remain perfectly visible even in poor lighting conditions.
