The great Laco watch in the minimalist Bauhaus design MADE in Germany convinces both optically and technically on the whole line!
It was a sunny day when the package from Laco arrived. After I opened the box I was very surprised how big the package is. It measures a proud 30 x 11 x 5.5 cm and is made of thick black cardboard. The Laco logo can be found crosswise with the typical colours.
Laco JENA 40 Automatic
Inside the packaging there is a large case in which the Laco logo is stamped. The anticipation grows as I slowly opened the zipper and looked inside the case….
There it was, the Laco Jena with a diameter of 40cm. Arranged on two rubber bands it was to be seen in its full size completely. WOW. In the “lid” one finds the instruction as well as the carefully filled out, and with stamp & signature provided warranty card. Qualitatively everything very very beautifully made.
The watch itself has a typical silver and brushed stainless steel case, which surrounds the dark gray dial in Bauhaus style. The 12 numbers can also be seen in the flat mineral glass, which is also used in the glass back. The silver hands always show the exact time. A very harmonious appearance.
The Laco Jena 40 weighs in at a light 64 grams, including a black calfskin strap. Inside, the well-known Laco 15 automatic movement ticks, which is based on the MIYOTA 9015 basic movement. The movement has a second stop function, with which the exact setting of the time is possible. Through the glass bottom you can see the movement very closely. Simply beautiful…
The 5 ATM already show that this is not a diver’s watch, that was never intended. Nevertheless, it simply puts away light contact with water. But you shouldn’t go swimming with this beautiful watch.
The wearing comfort is great for a 40mm watch. Despite its size you can hardly feel it. For those who like it even smaller and lighter, the JENA 40 can also be purchased as a JENA 38, the classic 38 size for this Bauhaus design makes the whole thing a little rounder and even lighter. At just 57g, the JENA 38 is another 7g lighter.

If you’re looking for a red second hand and a NATO bracelet, the WEIMAR 40 or WEIMAR 38 is just the thing for you. Also here there is a dark grey dial and the matching data of the JENA models. For 440,- EUR (09.2019) you get a watch model, which is very high quality processed. Wearing it with a suit or a casual look is a lot of fun, due to the low weight it is hardly noticeable.
