And when we talk about Dustin Poirier as one ambassador of Valimor Watches, we have to have a closer look at this label. So let’s go for it…..

1. Who is the person behind the brand Valimor? What’s your name? Where do you come from? Where do you live? What are your hobbies?

First of all, thank you for your opportunity to provide Interview with me. My name is Raymond. I am 34 years old and born in Hong Kong. In 2018, I successfully created Valimor through Kickstarter. Most of my life is devoted to design, and the rest of the time is spent with my family, playing with my beloved puppy.

2. How did it all happen with watches?

I think a watch is one of the important numbers in the equation that expresses the emotion, taste and personality of a man. It depends on how you want to express yourself in front of others.

3. Which watch was responsible for your addiction? Would you describe yourself as a watchnerd? which watches do you own ?

I was a fan of Gshock and Swatch during the elementary and middle school years. Until my 11-year-old, my father owed a huge sum of money and caused the family to go bankrupt, I was always in a debt-ridden economy, so the watch was a very extravagant thing for me.

In the next few years, I borrowed money from the government to study. After graduating from the design school, I started to work as a watch designer and started a new journey with watches.

Sometimes I will meet with friends to study different watches.

I can honestly say that over the past 15 years, I have spent more than 20% of my time reading and researching other watches, including books, physical stores and exhibitions. But I have never felt like a watchnerd, because the feeling of watchnerd is a bit of a demander, and my role is a supplier. I am responsible for designing new watch that does not exist on the market. This will keep my design thinking neutral and easier to think about new things.

4. When did you come up to create your own watch brand? And why? what happened those days?

In the past 15 years, I have worked in 3 different watch companies, covering markets and brands from Dubai, Japan, the United States to Switzerland.

Among them, the one that I learned the most is one of the Australian boss companies. They have their own sample library, which has the main watches and fashion magazines on the market. The sample storage room contains different brands of watches and different materials which including leather, metal and plastic samples, etc.; there are also trend websites that need to pay more than 10,000 US dollars per year. Basically, I can get a lot of the latest information and images that are in line with the world every day. In addition, the company will also take me to the art gallery and Basel Switzerland and some other watch exhibitions every year. In the meantime, I also participated in fashion design and jewelry part-time courses. These experiences have made a lot of different connections with other things in terms of watch design.

However, as a designer working for others, my design will always be limited, because their company must take into account the requirements of the market, and the concept of their own brand, so this will limit my ideas and design.

Only by creating my own watch brand, I can bring the design and ideas hidden in my heart to the world without being restricted by the company system.

5. What were your first ideas referring to Valimor watches? What intentions lead to this special design?

I personally like some stories, weapons, books, movies and exhibitions about magic and medieval themes. So I want to make it a design element of watches. I used to mention my inspiration to the bosses of the previous company, but they will feel that these elements have no market value, and the brand image of the watch that is not suitable for them, so my watch design can only add the elements they like.

Musée de l’Armée is my favorite museum with lots of gorgeous medieval weapons and armor.

Fifteen years have passed quickly, and there has been no watch brand in the market with such subjects as the design main core. Of course, there have been a small number of high-end brands that have launched knight-themed watches, but the prices are super expensive, from thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars. So I decided to create this watch brand and offer consumers a new style of watches in an affordable price.

6. How did you get in contact with Dustin Poirier, the number three in the world of light weight? How could you manage to have him as an ambassador of Valimor?

I would like to thank Instagram for letting me know friends from all over the world. One of them introduced Mr. Poirier to me. Through his warrior mentality, intense fighting style, healthy struggle and positive image of life. He is definitely the best ambassador of VALIMOR WATCHES.

7. Let’s talk about the current model of Valimor Watches.

What makes this timepiece so unique? And how did you come to the idea of using real polished stones for your dials ? This special strap reminds me in the scale armor of a dragon? What’s the idea behind this design and how did you come to this idea?

My favorite story is ‘The Sword in the Stone’, so the first collection of watches, Caliburnus, mixes a number of different design elements. Including the watch case inspired by the dragon scales engraved on ancient armour, the sword shaped hands, the crown shaped watch crown, the dragon hide inspired leather strap, the hilt shaped metal strap buckle and the natural stone dial designs.

8. What are your next plans with Valimor? Are you having new designs and models in your mind? What can we expect?

Valimor’s future design will continue this type of design element, making more different attempts, from style design to material selection, from classic minimalism, Skeleton, Openheart, to diving watches.

I have a lot of inspiration to implement them one by one, creating more different styles of watches on the market.
