The Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2007-17W is one of the novelties that the watch giant Citizen has launched this year. This means well-tried functions, new colors and a luminous dial. Will the Citizen Promaster Aqualand be able to maintain its status as a timeless classic?

Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2007 17W Test & Unboxing Video – 4K

An unusual box…

My first encounter with the Aqualand is promising. In the past, there have been numerous attempts to incorporate the diving theme into the packaging design in more or less creative ways. The solution Citizen has come up with is as simple as it is ingenious. Why not just put your own watch in a bright yellow mini diving bottle? The result also convinces with practical functions. The black bottom contains the watch itself. This presentation definitely has it all!

Long-time Citizen wearers can confidently put aside the enclosed user manual. You will quickly find your way around. Even for newcomers, the handling of the model is relatively self-explanatory. The Citizen Promaster Aqualand is characterized by a digital display, which allows you to read data that you won’t find on most other diving watches. The interesting construct at 9 o’clock is a sensor that measures this data during the dive. On the display, the diver can then read the elapsed dive time as well as current and maximum dive depth. Here, Citizen specifies a maximum diving depth of 200 meters – solid! Diving too fast is harmful to health and sometimes life-threatening. The Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2007-17W measures the ascent speed and emits a warning tone if necessary. Classic functions such as the unidirectional rotating bezel successfully round out the overall package.

Inside, a conventional quartz movement drives the Citizen Promaster Aqualand. I find it a pity that the environmentally friendly Eco Drive is not used here. In this field, Citizen is a leader. The solar drive would have made the battery change superfluous. Saving resources is not.

Reasonable price, numerous functions

On the wrist, I notice the low weight of the diver’s watch. It weighs just 111 grams. A remarkable value, considering that the case is made of stainless steel and measures 44 millimeters in diameter. The result is a pleasant wearing comfort. With the silicone wristband, you don’t have to worry about sporty activities. All components are manufactured quite high quality. For the three-digit price segment, this is more than okay.

The most striking feature of the reference JP20007-17W is probably its luminous dial. In daylight, it is cream-colored and bright. However, when you wear the watch in the dark, it glows poison green. This makes it easy to read. Readability is fine, although the minute hand could be a few millimeters longer in my opinion. The dial is protected by scratch-resistant mineral crystal.

Good diving watches don’t have to cost a fortune. This is proven by the Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2007-17W. With the Aqualand Citizen has for years a diving watch in the program, which offers an optimal price-performance ratio. Many good functions meet few points of criticism here. Everyone who is looking for a reliable companion for diving will find it. Visually, the luminous dial of the Citizen Promaster Aqualand is fully up to date. The total package costs 429 euros.
