A strong sign for marine conservation
For the first time, Balance & Bridge is dedicating itself exclusively to a watch from Squale, and the timing could hardly be more appropriate. In a remarkable collaboration with Sea Shepherd, an international marine conservation organization, Squale is launching a limited edition diving watch. What makes it special is that 100% of the profits go directly to funding the ongoing marine conservation campaign in the Mediterranean, which targets illegal fishing. This release goes beyond a mere product – it is an active contribution to the preservation of marine habitats.

The model: Squale 1521 Sea Shepherd Limited Edition
The new watch is called the Squale 1521 Sea Shepherd Limited Edition and is strictly limited to only 100 pieces. Squale was founded in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1959 and quickly made a name for itself with functional diving watches and the production of high-quality cases for numerous other brands. In the decades between the 1960s and 1980s, renowned divers such as Jacques Mayol and Enzo Maiorca also used watches with Squale cases. Today, the company is owned by the Maggi family and manufactures in Chiasso, where it remains committed to its independent philosophy and the production of professional mechanical diving watches.

Functionality with a signal effect
Technically, the model is based on Squale’s proven 1521 platform. The 42 mm polished stainless steel case houses an automatic Sellita SW200-1 Elaboré movement with 500 meters of water resistance. The matte black dial with the Sea Shepherd logo at 6 o’clock is particularly eye-catching, combined with an orange aluminum bezel, a first for Squale. This color accent is echoed in the included black and orange NATO strap, giving the watch a powerful, maritime look – a statement on the wrist that is both aesthetically and functionally impressive.

A real contribution – not just a marketing gesture
This watch is not a symbolic special edition or a concept model. It is a limited series product that makes a concrete contribution to financing an active environmental mission. Every timepiece sold helps to continue Operation SISO, Sea Shepherd’s campaign against illegal fishing on the southern coast of Italy. By 2025, over ten kilometers of illegal fishing gear had already been removed. The campaign protects endangered species such as sea turtles and tuna in one of Europe’s most sensitive marine habitats.

A partnership with impact
“This cooperation strengthens our presence in the Mediterranean,” explains Andrea Morello, President of Sea Shepherd Italy. The profits from watch sales enable Sea Shepherd to finance not only its daily patrols and the removal of illegal fishing gear, but also to support the work of volunteers and legal action. It is a partnership that goes beyond words and delivers tangible results in the field.

Shared values between technology and nature
Squale has always had a special connection to the sea and its ecology. Technical precision and a passion for diving are deeply rooted in the company’s DNA – as is a sense of responsibility towards the oceans. This shared vision is what makes the collaboration with Sea Shepherd so meaningful. The 1521 Sea Shepherd Limited Edition is not just a timepiece, but a manifesto for the protection of the oceans. It combines high-quality watchmaking with genuine commitment – a symbiosis of form, function, and attitude.
